I recently had a very disappointing experience with Dealerclub Auction after selling a vehicle through their platform.
Last Thursday, our vehicle met reserve and successfully sold at the end of the auction. We received both an email and a phone call from our representative congratulating us on our first sale above reserve. At that point, everything seemed to be handled properly and professionally.
The following day, we were instructed not to release the vehicle to transport until payment cleared, which is standard. We were told we would receive an update on Monday.
On Monday, however, I received a call from S.M. informing me that they wanted to cancel (unwind) the sale. No clear explanation was provided. I specifically asked whether the buyer was a licensed and registered dealer, and I was told yes. Despite that, they stated they “felt” the buyer may have been bidding irresponsibly and decided to block the buyer and cancel the transaction.
This reasoning was extremely concerning. There was no evidence of fraud, no claim of error, and no direct communication with the buyer. It appeared to be based purely on assumption.
I explained that we had already completed our responsibilities, including mailing out the title, and saw no valid reason to cancel a legitimate sale. I also expressed that in nearly two decades of buying and selling vehicles (since 2007), I have never encountered an auction reversing a completed sale without a clear and justified cause.
I was told this is a “community auction” and that we should “work together,” but no concrete explanation was given as to why the sale needed to be canceled. When I asked to escalate the issue, I was told there was no one higher to speak to.
The following day, I was simply told: “It is what it is. We are moving forward with the cancellation.” No further discussion, no transparency, and no accountability. I was then advised to relist the vehicle and try to sell it again.
This experience was frustrating and unprofessional. A completed sale was reversed without justification, leaving us at a loss of time and trust. That is not how auctions are supposed to operate.
I would strongly caution other dealers to be aware of how transactions can be handled on this platform
