Smart Auction has been a decent platform to sell vehicles, but their arbitration process is at best, terrible. When a seller gets an arbitration email, it always states “undisclosed mechanical issue”. From there, little to no communication occurs, and the arb is completely in the hands of SA and the buyer- no updates, no proof of inspection, nothing. Every vehicle we sell is run through our shop, and mechanical issues are fixed. Obviously, cars break, but SA gives an open checkbook to the buyer, and as a seller, I see no communication on my end. The infrequent times I have had to buy a vehicle back, once we get it, we 99% of the time find no issues with the unit. Smart Auction should be more transparent in their arb processes, specifically with communication and subsequent inspections so the seller can see what is happening with the arbitration.
